Walk around Kyiv. The metro.

I take a trolleybus downtown. I walk around a lot, but can’t find anything extraordinary in Kyiv. It’s hot, so I’m looking for cool underground places.

The metro (subway) is nice, the cars are made of wood and lit with bulbs (not neons). It looks old-fashioned, but it’s spacious, comfortable and fast. The contrast between old-fashioned wooden cars and plasma screens displaying TV ads (and the next station) is striking.
Stations are modern, sober and elegant, with the usual Soviet symbols: hammer & sickle and wheat. A whole station is dedicated to Lenin. Stations are very, very deep and escalator rides are so long that there is a sign asking not to sit on the stairs :-)
There are no tickets, but tokens. The machine retains the token, so once you’re in, you have no more proof of having paid. There is a lot of staff and police around, at escalators, on platforms... Not easy to steal pictures inside.

There is also a nice Art Deco funicular behind Saint Mikhayil’s Monastery.

(poor picture, sorry)

I want to be in Odessa on Friday. Train schedule is odd (15:00 – 05:00), so I’m looking for a flight. Most travel agencies can’t deliver a ticket just 2 days prior to departure, so I have to find an agency specialized in air travel. I’ve never heard about the carrier, but the ticket is only 50€.
